Did you speak to Grammateas?

This page is for anyone who rang a business and was answered by a digital voice. It explains who answered, what is kept from the call and what you can ask for.

Last updated: 12 September 2026 · This English version is provided for convenience; in case of divergence the Greek text prevails.

You spoke to a program, not to a person. Grammateas is an artificial-intelligence assistant that answers the phone on behalf of the business you called. She says so herself in one sentence at the start of every call — she never pretends to be a human being.

Why she tells you at the start

Because the law requires it, and because it is the right thing to do. Article 50 of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) requires systems that converse with people to state that they are AI systems. The announcement is built into the platform and cannot be switched off by the business: every call opens with a sentence along the lines of

"Just to let you know, I am a digital assistant with artificial intelligence."

If the call is being recorded, that is announced to you as well, before you say anything.

What is kept from the call

WhatAlways?Why
The number you called from, the time and the duration Yes So that the business knows who called and can call you back
A transcript and a summary of the conversation Yes So that the business can see what was asked and what was agreed
An audio recording of the call Only if the business has switched it on — and then you are told Quality, staff training, evidence of what was agreed
Details you gave yourself (name, appointment, subject) Yes So that your request can be dealt with

The data is held on servers inside the European Union. It is not sold, not used for advertising and not given away to train artificial-intelligence models.

I want to speak to a person

Just say so: "I would like to speak to someone", "put me through to a member of staff". The call is transferred to a person if one is available; otherwise a message with your number is taken so that they can call you back. The assistant does not keep you on the line and does not insist.

The assistant also transfers on her own when the subject goes beyond what she knows, when she notices that you are annoyed, or when the matter is serious. She gives no medical, legal or financial advice, and does not handle emergencies — in an emergency call 112.

Can she tell lies?

The assistant answers only from the information the business has given her (opening hours, prices, services). She is set up so that, when she does not know something, she says so, asks, or transfers — she does not guess. No technology is perfect: if something you heard does not add up, ask a person at the business to confirm it.

Your rights over the data

You have the right to learn what was kept from your call, to ask for a copy, a correction or erasure, and to object to the processing (Articles 15–22 GDPR).

Step-by-step instructions: Exercising your rights.

"Telephone calls to our business are answered by an artificial-intelligence assistant (Grammateas, Retail Management Solutions), which states this at the start of every call. The conversation is transcribed [and recorded] in order to serve you. More: https://grammateas.gr/en/ai-transparency/"
